Why Volunteer?

The PTA is a parent run organization. Without volunteers there is no PTA, no fundraising and no student programs. The PTA benefits our children, school, and community in many ways and we need you to make it happen.

​

There is a role for everyone in the PTA. Read below to see what might fit you and your family best. Many people start out just coming to meetings or volunteering to help out with an event . Many events, such as the School Fair, Scholastic Book Fair, and Holiday Boutique require more parent volunteers than just the committee members who are running the event. It is a great way to get involved and see what's going on.

There are many ways to participate...

​

• Low time commitment: Volunteer to help with PTA events, activites, or fundraisers. Refer to the PROGRAMS, FUNDRAISERS, EVENTS page for more details including key contact people, event dates, and help needed.

• Medium time commitment: Join a committee, each event, fundraiser, or program is planned and run by a committee of Strawtown parents.

• High time commitment: Become a PTA Board Member and help to run the PTA itself. All PTA board members are activily involved in events, fundraisers, and programs as well.

How to begin...

• Identify the level of commitment that is right for you:

  • How much time can you afford? Daytime or evening?

  • Do you have a unique skill set? 

  • Do you work and want to help with a job that can be done on your own time? 

• Review the Programs, Events, Fundraisers page and see where you might like to get involved. Contact the committee members to see how you can help.

• Attend a PTA meeting and ask other PTA members where help is most needed.

• Respond directly to a volunteer request that is communicated via email, flyer, or text message from the PTA. Some events like the Fall Festival and Scholastic Book Fair require a lot of additional parent volunteers.

• Have an idea for a new fundraiser or event, contact one of our PTA Presidents to discuss.
